Vocalist Laurie Antonioli has a new release on Origin Records "Songs of Shadow, Songs of Light" exploring the music of her earliest musical inspiration, Joni Mitchell. She is joined by Matt Clark keyboards, Dave MacNab guitar, John Shifflett bass, Jason Lewis drums, Sheldon Brown woodwinds, and Theo Blackman lends his voice on one of the tracks.
Also new this month on the Origin Record label, guitarist Bobby Brooom "My Shining Hour" in a trio setting with Dennis Carroll on bass, and Makaya McCraven drums.
A third new release this month from Origin Records is from Collier & Dean "Sleek Buick". From OA2 Records there is "Tuesday Night" from pianist Gordon Lee with drummer Mel Brown's Septet.
Drummer Jae Sinnett is releasing "Subject To Change" his 12th recording as a leader on his own J-Nett Music label. All but one of the 8 songs on the recording are composed by Jae, and in the new band for this recording he's joined by: Steve Wilson - alto and soprano saxophones, Justin Kauflin - keyboards, Terry Burrell - bass, JC Kuhl - tenor saxophone, Rob Dedominick - trumpet, Bill Brown - trumpet, Duane Smith - electronic trumpet.
Singer Al Jarreau has a new recording on Concord Records dedicated to his friend since the 1960's called "My Old Friend: Celebrating George Duke". Guest artists include Gerald Albright, Stanley Clarke, Dr. John, Lalah Hathaway, Boney James, Marcus Miller, Jeffrey Osborne, Kelly Price, Dianne Reeves and Patrice Rushen, and there is a track that features George Duke's playing as well.
